Love My Skin FAQs
Have a question about our devices? We have put together some of the common frequently asked questions around our products. Click the buttons below to review the question on that product category.
Which adapters can I use to power the Luxury Glass Diffuser?
The Luxury Glass Diffuser is compatible with a USB plug adapter with an output of 5 Volts – no more and no less.
An iPhone or Samsung plug adapter is suitable but other android plug adapters may vary. Connecting your Diffuser to a laptop via the USB may not result in enough power for the product to work properly.
Why do I have to shave before using the IPL?
For best results, we recommend that you prepare your skin before each time you use the Laser Hair Remover. The laser works on the hair inside the follicle, under the surface of the skin, so shaving makes it easier for the laser to reach the right areas.
You should not wax or pluck any hairs between treatments – hair needs to be present in the follicle for the laser to be effective, and plucking or waxing both remove hair from the root.
Is my hair colour suitable for using the IPL?
The Love My Skin Laser Hair Remover works on light brown to black body hair, because the laser affects the dark pigment in the hair. This means that lighter hair colours, including blond, red, grey, or white, will not absorb enough energy from the laser to work effectively.
As hair can grow in different colours across the body, you should check each area you wish to treat using our Colour Checker.
Is my skin colour suitable for using the IPL?
The laser affects dark pigments, which is why the hair needs to be dark enough to absorb the laser’s energy. Dark skin can absorb some of this energy and may not be suitable – use our Colour Checker to see if your skin tone will work safely and effectively with the Laser Hair Remover.
How long does it take before I start seeing results from the IPL?
- After your first treatment you may see some mild redness, which will dissipate within 24 hours.
- After a month of use you will see visible results – clinical studies have shown up to 70% reduction in hair within this time.
- After 2-3 months you will see a visible reduction in hair regrowth, and the hair that does regrow will appear finer and lighter.
- From 3 months, any hair follicles that have been deactivated by the laser treatments will cease growing any hair. You should continue to use the Laser Hair Remover for any touch ups needed until your unwanted hair is completely gone.
How often can I use the Laser Hair Remover?
We have a treatment programme, designed for various areas of the body, that allows you to get results as quickly as possible while protecting your skin.
Can I use the Laser Hair Remover over tattoos?
You should avoid using the machine over tattoos, as the skin will be darker than your usual skin tone, affecting how the laser is absorbed.
Can anyone else use my IPL device?
For hygiene reasons, we recommend that you do not share personal care devices, like the Laser Hair Remover, with other people.
Can I tan while using the IPL?
Whilst the Laser will still work if you have a tan it’s performance may be impaired due to your skin tone matching the pigment in the hair follicle more closely, which means laser cannot target the hair follicle as effectively.
What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is a way of using targeted laser light to disable the hair follicle, preventing it from growing more hair.
Does Laser Hair Removal work?
Absolutely it does! In fact, it works better than IPL, another popular method of hair removal. Laser hair removal has been around for nearly 20 years, and it wouldn’t still be as popular as it is if it didn’t work.
Is Laser Hair Removal safe?
Yes, using lasers to remove hair is safe – it has been researched, developed, and refined over the last 20 years to ensure safety as well as effectiveness. To protect your skin, you should follow our treatment plan and not use the device more frequently than the guidelines suggest.
How much does Laser Hair Removal cost?
Laser hair removal can be expensive in a salon environment; especially considering you’ll need a course of treatment in order to see results. Prices vary considerably, depending on where you are, but average costs for a single area can be hundreds of pounds. At-home laser hair removal machines allow you to try out the effects for less than the cost of a course of treatment in a salon.
Does Laser Hair Removal hurt?
Some people find laser hair removal to be painful, while others report a sensation more like having an elastic band gently pinged over the skin. The Love My Skin Laser Hair Remover has 5 comfort levels, so you can find a treatment level that doesn’t cause you pain.
Can I use the IPL on my face?
The Love My Skin Laser Hair Remover can be used on women’s facial hair from the cheek line downwards. Do not use the device on eyebrow or eyelash hair. Men should not use the device on the face, due to the density of male facial hair.
Is my hair colour suitable for using this device?
Please refer to the chart in the manual before you start using the device to determine if your skin tone and hair colour are suitable to use with the intensity lights. (“○” means the device is suitable for you, “X” means the device is not suitable for you, 1-5 refers to the flash intensity levels).
※ If this device is suitable for you, please refer to the chart to select an appropriate light intensity (the device is more effective at a higher intensity light. However, if you feel any pain or discomfort, please reduce the intensity).
How often should I use the IPL device?
According to the hair growth cycle, it is recommended to use the IPL Hair Removal Device once every two weeks for the first 3-4 times and gradually reduce the use according to hairs condition.

Can I tan while using the IPL?

Will my hair grow back darker after dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a non-invasive exfoliating treatment and works on the surface of the skin, not the root, so your facial hair won’t come back thicker or darker. The hair will grow back but it won’t grow back a different thickness or colour.
Is dermaplaning safe?
Yes, it is a non-invasive, painless treatment. Make sure you are not pressing too hard with the Derma Pro blade works in gentle strokes across the skin and do not keep going over the same part of your skin too many times as this may cause irritation.
How often should I use the Derma Beauty Pro+?
We recommend using the Derma Beauty Pro+ once a week.
Can I use the Derma Beauty Pro+ in the shower?
Please do not use the Derma Beauty Pro+ in the shower as it is not waterproof.
How do the Love My Skin Clear Skin Compact and Pen work?
The Love My Skin Clear Skin Compact and Pen both use red light therapy. This is a clinically proven technology to help clear spots through active cell regeneration, reducing inflammation, redness and healing time.
When our skin cells are stressed, they produce a substance called Mitochondrial Nitric Oxide (NOmt), which reduces the ability of the cells to fight infection and repair themselves. This can result in skin damage, including spots and acne.
Red light therapy helps to remove the NOmt, letting oxygen back into the cells so they can start working effectively again and this has been proven to improve healing.
As the therapy is both effective and kind to sensitive skin, it is used as a treatment for spots and acne by many healthcare professionals.
How long will it take to heal my spots and acne?
It will be different for every person as we all have different skin, but healing time can be reduced by around half compared to using no treatment at all.
Do I have to treat my spots three times a day?
Using the Compact or Pen three times a day will achieve the best results but if it is not convenient, you will still get good results if you use morning and evening when you are more likely to be taking care of your skin. Using any more than three times a day (or for more than one minute) will not have any additional benefits.
Are there any side effects?
There have been many clinical trials using red light therapy and there are no reported side effects. Love My Skin Clear Skin only uses safe levels of infrared light that occur naturally in sunlight.
Will Love My Skin Clear Skin hurt or burn my skin?
There is virtually no heat produced by Love My Skin Clear Skin, so no risk of burning and the treatment is completely pain free.
Will I get UV damage to my skin?
Love My Skin Clear Skin does not use UV light, just Red Light Therapy so there is no risk of damage to your skin.
I have sensitive skin, is it safe to use the Love My Skin Clear Skin Compact or Pen?
Yes, it is safe and kind to even very sensitive skin. Of course if your skin does react, stop using immediately.
What are the other advantage of Love My Skin Clear Skin?
You can carry on using your usual skin care regime alongside Clear Skin. Clear Skin will not dry out your skin or clog pores.

I have sensitive skin, is it safe to use the Love My Skin Facial Cleansing System?
Yes, it is safe. If you want to cleanse more gently, use the latex sponge or synthetic bristle brush. Of course if your skin does react stop using immediately.
I have acne, is it safe to use the Love My Skin Facial Cleansing System?
No. As Acne is so sensitive and your skin barrier is compromised, we do not recommend use.
When should I replace the brush head?
Dependent on use we recommend that you replace your brush head every 3-4 months to ensure the brushes performance is maintained.
What is the advantage of using the Love My Skin Facial Cleansing System with the Clear Skin compact and pen?
The Facial Cleansing System will help to cleanse your skin thoroughly when used with your favourite facial wash or foaming cleanser. Skin that is prone to spots tends to have more sebum (oil) on the surface which can clog pores. You may also wear make-up so the cleaner your skin is, the less opportunity there is for spots to start.
What is the difference between red light and blue light therapy for acne and why do Love My Skin use red light?
Both red and blue light therapy have been shown to be effective in helping manage acne but they work in slightly different ways. When blue light reaches the sebaceous glands in the skin, it can help excite compounds (porphyrins) inside acne bacteria which when activated, can kill the bacteria from the inside out. Red light penetrates deeper into the skin and can help reduce inflammation and improve healing by promoting cell regeneration.
Kinetik who own Love My Skin, has expertise and a long history of working with red light, not just for skincare but for other medical applications too. Red light is our area of expertise and we understand the science very well. This is why have chosen to work with red light for acne and are confident of the product performance.
How often should I replace the brush heads on my facial cleanser?
We recommend replacing the brush heads every 2-3 months or when the bristles appear worn and can no longer be restored to their original shape.
How long until I start seeing results from using the facial cleanser?
We recommend you use this device consistently every day for no more than 3-5 minutes per session. You will see results after 2 months of consistent use.
Can I use this device if I have sensitive skin or a skin condition?
While the device is very gentle, if you have a pre-existing condition or skin sensitivity we recommend you consult your doctor or dermatologist before using the device.

Do I need to cleanse my face before using a facial steamer?
Yes, you need to use the facial steamer after you have cleansed your face to remove any make-up, oil and dirt. This is because the steaming process opens your pores, which will allow any debris on your face to get inside them which can lead to irritation/breakouts.
How often should I use a facial steamer?
Use for 10-15 minutes, 2-3 times a week.
What are the benefits of using a facial steamer?
Blackhead removal: The steam will help to soften the skin which will loosen oil and build-up in your pores. This will make the blackhead removal process easier.
Hydration: A steamer will promote a hydrating and moisturised complexion and will often soften the appearance of wrinkles. It will also enhance the absorption of your skincare products and face masks.
Steaming will increase your blood flow which in turn helps skin to build collagen and elastin to maintain both elasticity and firmness.
